Some dents are just pure circumstance while others can be avoided. By being aware of your surroundings you can easily reduce the odds of damage being done to your car. The most common dent locations are:
- Body lines
- Car door edges
- Quarter panels
They stick out so they are the most susceptible. Let’s focus on your garage for a moment. I know I have personally caused unnecessary damage to my vehicles over the years because of a garage. I find it quite ironic actually. I put my car in the garage to keep it safe and yet human error and garage obstacles cause the most damage.
Garage Safety Tips
Here are a couple of safety items I have seen people deploy:
Tie a ball to a string and hang it so that when your car windshield hits the ball you know when to stop.
Wrap foam around the support pole that is in the middle of a two car garage. Opening the door without thinking can lead to pole door connections that do not make you happy.
Make sure your sensors are working for your garage door opener. Those sensors will stop the garage door from closing if an object is in the way…that would be your rear bumper. When the sensors don’t work or are out of alignment a tragedy occurs. That happened to me a few years back. I was not too happy with myself. I had to go into a timeout and everything. It was not pretty!
